No room to store a mistake
An airport terminal does not stop for a glazing package. Every installer holds an airside security clearance, works escorted, and works at night when passenger movements allow. Materials come through security screening and there is no lay-down area to speak of, so every panel is fabricated to the approved shop drawings and arrives in the order it goes in.
The glazing itself is part of a security upgrade, which puts the setout, the fixing and the glass specification under a level of scrutiny most commercial jobs never see. That suits how we work: the shop drawings are approved before anything is cut, and the crew that made the frames is the crew that fits them.
The work is part of Brisbane Airport Corporation’s security upgrade to the Domestic Terminal. BAC’s planning guidelines require blast protection on glazing in terminal redevelopments. The package uses high-strength, blast-mitigating glass and framing, so every panel, fixing and frame went in exactly as engineered and approved. Thirteen tonnes of it, without a single tolerance surprise on night shift.
